I propose that every member on ATT donate a dollar so we can get you a plane ticket...there are a lot of members; I think there would be spending money left over too.

The early bird discount ends on midnight July 31 (end of July)...this is a 3 day convention and would be a great excuse to come into town to meet Hal!

I am quite tempted to do this. I might just see if I can't make it down this year.

Does California count? I've been to several Christian conventions, I'd like to try something new. :)

I think there are some options closer to you but if you want to visit Texas it's certainly open to everyone :)

I actually live in the LA county, so it's relatively closer than where I'm at now.  amirite? :) I had a dream that I went to an atheist convention and in this dream I felt as if my chest were tightening and I could not breathe.  I felt as if I was the stupidest person in the building and it was as if I could feel the atheist's disapproval in my theism, their weariness of my presence as if they expected me to lash out against them.  I want to see if it's actually like this though.

Just so you know, there are a lot of atheists who feel like they are the dumb one in the room when the more bookish among us open their mouths.  This particular convention is not overly focused on stuffy educational talks.

So, I'm going to consider this fairly seriously since I'm in San Antonio.  Should we consider a meetup of ATT members?  I still need clearance from the finance department (my spouse!).  But I'm hoping to make this one!

I drove all the way to San Ant for last year's convention; the drive wasn't that bad (there is a whole group of san antonio people you can ride with to save money and kill time chatting on the drive up).  Yes, we should arrange a meetup for any ATT members that attend.

OK - I just registered myself, my spouse, and my eight year old son!  We are going - woo hoo!!!!!

So, let's work on ways to coordinate meeting up.  I will also mention this over at WWGHA for others who might want to say hi while attending.

So, let's work on ways to coordinate meeting up.

Awesome.  Maybe we could come up with an "my online name is" sticker for everyone to wear?  If we had one template that everyone used to print the sticker at home it would be easy to find each other.  I'll be easy to find simply because I'm one of the organizers...after we know who is coming I can suggest a time and area that would be best to meet, I might even get them to do an announcement for forum members to meet together at a certain time then perhaps do the same for twitter/facebook at a different time.  We'll see how it plays out since I just now thought of that idea.

Sounds great Whitney.  Lets continue using this thread until we decide on other methods of communication as we get closer.

:bump:

Anyone else going to come?

You'll get a chance to meet people like Brother Richard (atheist nexus), Matt Dillahunty (Atheist Experience), Sam Singleton (atheist Evangelist), and a bunch of others, too many to list them all....oh and of course me (probably Red McWilliams and Hal too).

That's when my fall break is, and I've got the lightest semester ever right now, so I can totally come. And I qualify for the student discount! And Dallas is close enough for me to drive pretty easily! Hells yeah!

Is there anything specific I need to know before I grab a ticket? Do you guys have specific room reservations or something?
