Atheists Have No Morals
The very idea that atheists have their own set of morals makes me squeamish. The only common denominator atheista have is their lack of belief in a god or gods. More importantly, morals are entirely subjective, since we have no universal experiences, we can’t have a universal set of morals.
Some atheists may share the same morals, differ in a few, or have no common morals at all. The only thing that determines which is the case is who you are talking to.
Some atheists never belonged to a religion, so they don’t define their morals off of prior faith. Then there are some atheists who once belonged to a religion and they may use their prior faith to help define their morals. They may also toss out all or a few pre-deconversion morals.
The most appalling thing is when people claim atheists have no morals. This is simply an absurd statement of ignorance. A lack of a belief in god doesn’t mean atheists have no morals. Atheists define their morals like anyone else, with the exception that they don’t rely on old books or a deity to define their morals.
A lot of atheists use history to help define their morals. History can be the best tool to learn from our ancestors past, the mistakes, or achievements they made can help guide us today. Examples include the Civil Rights Movement, Women Rights Movement, the Salem Witch Trials, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, etc.
Atheists can also use current events to help define their morals. But we may not all agree on current events. Believe it or not we don’t all agree on abortion rights, gay rights, stem cell research, decriminalization of marijuana, the death penalty, global warming, gun control, immigration, etc.
If you would like to learn more about what some atheist's morals are on these current events please join the ATT community. The first step to understanding is to seek the truth, here at ATT you will have access to numerous atheists who are willing to talk to you, and help you understand their specific morals. But don’t be confused by these conversations, as every time you find one of us with a certain moral there will be another one of us who opposes it.
Sincerely, Kimberly
